Helpful Hints For Maximizing Your Cooler's Performance

Frost Bite Coolers are very strong and tough, but durability is just one of the benefits of a Frost Bite. Outstanding thermal properties are another factor that sets the Frost Bite Sherpa and Fiberglass Series coolers apart.

Frost Bite coolers are among the best insulated coolers on the market today (a full 2” or more of polyurethane insulation in the walls and lid of most sizes). This insulation, combined with a well-sealing gasket, creates optimal ice retention. If you understand and follow a few simple ice conserving tips, the Frost Bite Sherpa and Fiberglass coolers are unmatched in their performance.

1.	Due to the amount of insulation used in the product, it will retain heat as well as cold. If stored in direct sunlight or in a warm environment your cooler will retain built up heat. An enormous amount of ice is melted to bring warm insulation down to an ice retaining temperature. For this reason, we recommend storing your cooler in a cold or cool environment before loading it with ice.
2.	Pre-cooling the intended contents such as drinks and food is an obvious but often overlooked solution to longer ice retention. Remember, the colder your contents before loading, the less ice these contents will burn.
3.	Air space inside a cooler is a very poor insulator, and your ice will be consumed at a higher rate to keep this air cool. We always recommend filling the air space voids with more ice. If you cannot fill this space with more ice or are trying to minimize weight, fillers such as towels or crumpled newspaper will help maintain a cooler temperature.
4.	Once the cooler is in use, we recommend that you do NOT empty the cold water. More energy is required to cool air than to maintain the cold water.
5.	Ice quality is paramount; the temperature of ice could either be hovering at 32 degrees or sub-zero before you put it in your cooler. High quality ice will last much longer under identical conditions.
6.	There are many other variables that effect ice retention: frequent lid opening, outside environment, placement in direct sunlight, etc. Careful attention to these simple details will significantly extend ice retention.

These are some of the most important factors determining ice retention in a top quality cooler. If you follow these guidelines, you will achieve the best ice retention possible without an electrical cord attached. Just remember that the purpose of a cooler is to retain the temperature of its contents; it will not make ice for you.

Notes: The smaller coolers such as the 16qt. Lunch-mate and 25qt. Sherpa do not have the insulation thickness or ice capacity of the bigger Frost Bite Coolers. You will not attain the same ice-retention from these smaller coolers; however, they are the strongest and best performing small coolers on the market.

The Frost Bite Roughneck is a strong and well insulated cooler; however the Sherpa and Fiberglass series have a better seal and more wall insulation, providing greater ice keeping capacity.
